What it is

A space to think clearly and feel supported

Counselling is a confidential conversation with someone trained to help you make sense of what you are going through. At Fittopia Wellness Studio, sessions are delivered by a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with about nine years of experience supporting people through stress, change, and the everyday weight that can build up over time.

Our approach is person-centred and evidence-informed. That means you set the direction, and the work draws on practical, well-researched methods like CBT-informed and solution-focused counselling. The goal is not to hand you advice, but to help you build the insight, tools, and confidence to move forward in a way that fits your life.

Counselling is support, not a medical cure. It will not erase hard things overnight, but for many people it makes a real difference in how they feel, cope, and relate to themselves and others. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit. Wanting to feel a little better is reason enough.

Start from your strengths and resilience rather than only what feels hard.

We agree on goals together and revisit them as your needs change.

What to expect

Your counselling journey

You do not need to have it all figured out before you book. Here is how it usually unfolds.

1

Getting to know you

Your first session is about understanding what brings you in, what you are hoping for, and what life looks like right now. Together we shape a few clear goals to work toward. There is no script you need to follow and nothing you have to disclose before you are ready.

2

The work in session

Ongoing sessions are a confidential, one-on-one space to talk things through and build practical skills. We draw on approaches like CBT-informed and solution-focused work, always shaped around you. The pace is set with you, never rushed.

3

Ongoing support

As you make progress, we revisit your goals and adjust. Some people come for a short, focused stretch; others stay longer for steady support. You stay in control of how often you come and when it feels right to pause.

Session length and how it feels. Individual sessions usually run about 50 minutes. There is no pressure to share more than you are ready to, and the pace is always set with you. Many people feel a little lighter just from having space to talk things through.

Who is this for?

Counselling can help if you are

There is no single type of person who comes to counselling. If any of these sound like you, you are welcome here, and the first session is a relaxed way to see if it feels like the right fit.

  • Adults feeling stressed, anxious, or stretched thin and looking for support
  • Anyone navigating a transition in career, relationships, parenthood, or loss
  • People who want practical tools, not just a place to vent
  • Those rebuilding confidence, boundaries, or a kinder relationship with themselves
  • Members who train with us and want care for the mind alongside the body
  • Anyone curious about counselling and wanting a warm, no-pressure first step

Counselling FAQs

What happens in a first session?

The first session is mostly about getting to know you. We talk about what brings you in, what you are hoping for, and what is happening in your life right now, then shape a few goals together. There is nothing you need to prepare and nothing you have to share before you feel ready.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes. Sessions are private and confidential. What you share stays between you and your counsellor, within the standard professional and legal limits that protect safety. Your privacy is taken seriously at every step.

How long are sessions and how often should I come?

Individual sessions usually run about 50 minutes. Many people start weekly or every other week, then space sessions out as they build momentum. The pace is set with you, and you are always free to adjust how often you come.

Is counselling right for me?

Counselling can help if you feel stuck, stressed, low, or simply want a supportive space to think things through. It is support, not a medical cure, and you do not need to be in crisis to benefit. If you are unsure, the first session is a low-pressure way to find out whether it feels like a fit.

What approaches do you use?

Sessions are person-centred and evidence-informed, drawing on CBT-informed, solution-focused, and strengths-based approaches. Rather than a one-size-fits-all method, the work is shaped around your goals, your pace, and what feels most useful to you.

Do you provide receipts or direct billing?

Yes. Counselling is delivered by a Registered Social Worker (RSW), and we provide receipts you can submit to your extended health plan. Direct billing is available for many extended-health insurers. Coverage varies by plan, so it is worth checking your benefits for registered social work or counselling.
