What it is

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture is a cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been practised for thousands of years. Very fine, single-use sterile needles are placed at precise points on the body to encourage your own natural responses, helping to ease tension, support circulation, and restore a sense of balance.

At Fittopia Wellness Studio our care is delivered by Registered Acupuncturists (R.Ac) registered with the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC). Our team brings more than 25 years of combined clinical experience, and we blend a modern health intake with time-tested TCM diagnosis, including pulse and tongue assessment, so your plan is built around you.

Because the clinic sits under the same roof as our Pilates and fitness studio, acupuncture fits naturally into how you already move and train. It is recovery and whole-person care, right where you train.

Whole-person view

We look at the whole picture, not one symptom in isolation, so your care fits how you live, move, and recover.

Modern intake, TCM diagnosis

A modern health intake is combined with time-tested TCM methods, including pulse and tongue assessment, to guide your plan.

Gentle and tailored

Treatments use very fine needles with a mild sensation, paired with techniques like cupping or tui na as needed.

Experienced team

Our Registered Acupuncturists bring more than 25 years of combined clinical experience to every visit.

Common reasons people book

What does acupuncture help with?

People come to us for a wide range of concerns. Every body is different, so we focus on what you are experiencing and build a plan that fits, rather than promising a one-size-fits-all result.

Pain and injury recovery

Back, neck, shoulder, knee, and joint discomfort, plus support through recovery.

Sports and overuse strains

Tightness and strain from training, repetitive movement, and everyday load.

Headaches and migraines

A go-to reason people seek acupuncture for tension and recurring headaches.

Stress, anxiety, and sleep

Many come in to unwind, settle the nervous system, and rest more easily.

Women's health

Menstrual discomfort, fertility support, pregnancy, and the menopause transition.

Digestive complaints

Bloating, irregularity, and general gut comfort are common reasons to book.

Energy and circulation

General wellness visits to feel more balanced, warm, and resilient.

Recovery where you train

Care under the same roof as your Pilates and fitness, so it all works together.

Our approach

Techniques we use

Your acupuncturist draws on a full toolkit of Traditional Chinese Medicine, choosing what best suits your body and your goals on the day.

Acupuncture

Very fine, single-use sterile needles placed at precise points to encourage the body's own responses.

Electro-acupuncture

A gentle micro-current applied to selected needles, often used for stubborn pain and muscle tension.

Cupping therapy

Suction cups to ease tightness, support circulation, and free up restricted areas.

Gua sha

Smooth, gliding strokes along the skin to release tension and encourage movement.

Tui na

Chinese medical massage that works the muscles and channels alongside your treatment.

Moxibustion

Gentle, warming therapy used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to support circulation and comfort.

Auricular acupuncture

Ear acupuncture, often added to support stress, sleep, and overall balance.

Single-use sterile needles

Every needle is single-use and sterile, then safely disposed of after your session.

What to expect

Your visit, step by step

From your first conversation to ongoing care, here is how a course of treatment usually unfolds.

01

Assessment and intake

Your first visit starts with a thorough conversation about your health, goals, and history. We blend a modern intake with TCM diagnosis, including pulse and tongue assessment, to understand the full picture before any needles are placed.

02

Your treatment

You rest comfortably while very fine, single-use sterile needles are placed. The sensation is mild and most people find the session deeply relaxing. Your acupuncturist may add cupping, gua sha, tui na, moxibustion, electro-acupuncture, or ear acupuncture as appropriate.

03

Ongoing care

After your session we talk through what to expect and map out a simple plan. Many people notice a change within the first few sessions, and we adjust as you go, moving toward maintenance once you feel steady.

Session length and how it feels. Needles are very fine and the sensation is mild, usually a light tap followed by a comfortable, settled feeling. Many people notice a change within the first few sessions. As a general guide, acute concerns often respond in about 3 to 6 sessions and chronic ones in around 8 to 12, then we move toward maintenance visits to help you stay steady.

Acupuncture FAQs

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine, far thinner than the needles used for injections. Most people feel only a light tap or a mild, dull sensation as the needle settles, and many find the session so relaxing that they drift off. If anything ever feels uncomfortable, just let your acupuncturist know and they will adjust.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes. Your treatment is provided by a Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac) registered with the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC). We use single-use sterile needles that are safely disposed of after every session, and your acupuncturist reviews your health history before treatment to keep your care appropriate for you.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you are working on. As a general guide, acute or recent concerns often respond within about 3 to 6 sessions, while longer-standing or chronic issues may take around 8 to 12 sessions, after which many people move to occasional maintenance visits. Many people notice a change within the first few sessions. Your acupuncturist will map out a plan that fits your situation and adjust as you progress.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Have a light meal or snack beforehand so you are not arriving hungry, stay hydrated, and wear loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to roll up around the arms and legs. It also helps to give yourself a few unhurried minutes before and after your session, since treatment is most beneficial when you are relaxed.

Can acupuncture be combined with massage, Pilates, or training?

Absolutely, and that is one of the advantages of our location. Acupuncture sits under the same roof as Pilates and fitness at Fittopia Wellness Studio, so your recovery and treatment work alongside how you train. Many people pair acupuncture with massage therapy or Pilates as part of a whole-person routine. Your acupuncturist can help you sequence everything sensibly.

Do you provide receipts or direct billing for insurance?

Yes. We provide receipts you can submit to your extended health plan, and direct billing is available for many extended health insurers so you may only pay any remaining balance at the time of your visit. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend checking your specific benefits with your insurer before your appointment.
